Surprising, baffling, beautiful — We Do Recover is a vitalising record of recovery and a statement of reassurance from one of the most original voices in contemporary electronic music. Powell's first solo full-length on his own Diagonal Records is a uniquely expressive story that opens up new ground in the artists's bizarre continuum of synthesised sound — this time triggered by experiences of grief and addiction. "I nearly added a question mark to the album title," he says. "Recovery is a long process, and this album reflects that. There's a lot of short termism in the world right now, but recovery, in whatever guise, is the opposite of that… It takes time."
There are very few who manage it these days but Powell speaks with his own voice, a wonderfully disfigured beauty is born - Regis
Ritualistic, raw, and smeared with the afterglow of something that’s clearly over, but still echoing. A document of collapse rendered with grace - Richie Culver
Beautiful record. Super diverse and covers so much ground - Raime
Powell continues to touch in the most surprising of ways! Oddly powerful & really affecting - Graham Sutton (Boymerang / Bark Psychosis)
So gorgeous! The mechanics of ‘dance music’ are revisioned into a concept album successfully; it’s not an easy feat. The album took me to some very strange places (sonically, emotionally). It’s super intimate. There’s such a nice crest to the sequencing and the development of the record as a front-to-back listen that’s really satisfying - LUPINI
